"Groundbreaking scientist" Prof. Yonina Eldar is awarded the 2025 Israel Prize in the field of Engineering Research and Engineering Sciences.

“Prof. Eldar is an example and role model of a scientist who combines groundbreaking research with the ability to apply it and have a broad social impact across all sectors of society.”

“Prof. Eldar’s main research area deals with the development of algorithms for signal processing, information processing and artificial intelligence....She challenged the classic ‘sampling theorem’ and developed innovative theories that make it possible to reduce sampling rates without losing information – an insight that has changed the way many systems are designed in the field of engineering,” the announcement stated.

The prize committee also noted her social contribution: “Prof. Eldar is an active contributor to the advancement of Israeli society and equal opportunities in academia – promoting women and people with physical and mental disabilities. She is an example and role model of a scientist who combines groundbreaking research with the ability to apply it and have a broad social impact across all sectors of society.”

Prof. Eldar joined the Computer Science and Applied Mathematics Department at the Weizmann Institute of Science in 2019. The prize will be awarded to Eldar at the traditional ceremony on the upcoming Independence Day.
